Hi and welcome to the Single Page Plan, my name is Larry Lewis and today’s article is “How To Set Your Life Goals”.
“What are your life goals?” I best start by explaining what your life goals are? Simply put, they’re the things you would like to accomplish in your life time, big things. Life goals are those big accomplishments such as getting married and having a family, starting your own business, becoming financially comfortable, travelling the globe, or contributing to the world. Life goals are essentially everything you want to do in life before you take your final breath. They’re the stuff people remember you by when you are no longer here.
“All good men and women must take responsibility to create legacies that will take the next generation to a level we could only imagine.” Jim Rohn
For many of you I know you believe right now, you don’t have time for big goals. Day by day you’re fighting battles simply trying to survive and to get through, one day at a time. You don’t believe you need a goal in life, you don’t need to know the big picture. you just need to know what you’re going to do next!
Yet aspiring to achieve life goals and to be greater than the person you are today is the best way to push yourself in the direction you want to go. It’s your way out of a life of struggle.
You just need to get specific about exactly what you want.
More than just saying I want life to be better than it is right now.
You need to set goals, life goals, no longer just drifting daily in life with little or no direction. I repeat, they need to be specific. They need to give you both focus and the motivation.
By setting goals you are taking control of your life. Instead of letting life just happen, goals help you to create it and live it, in the right way.
Think little goals and expect little achievements. Think big goals and win big success. David Joseph Schwartz
Sitting down and outlining your life’s goals will put you on the fast track towards success. A moment of fantasy, seeing in your mind a dream, can propel you to achieve miracles. In the Single Page Plan the fuel for life change is provided by creating your ‘perfect life vision.’ This is the end result of achieving many of your big life goals successfully. It is the destination they take you to. It all starts with a dream.
“Whatever the mind can conceive and believe the mind can achieve.” Napoleon Hill
I continue to be surprised at how few people take time to write down their goals. Despite the fact that numerous studies have shown that there is a direct correlation between goal-setting and success, few people seem to ever get around to it. Please don’t make this mistake yourself.
Getting down your goals is the first step to empowering yourself. Writing them down and being able to reference them is a way to keep them slipping from your field of view. They’ll see you ‘never giving up.’
Now your goals must be clear, specific, detailed and measurable.
Albert Einstein said that your goal should be so clear that a 6 year old child could understand it clearly and explain it to another 6 year old child and be able to tell you if you had achieved your goal or how close you were to achieving your goal.
Its time you set your big life goals.
Get started today, by doing this exercise. Find a quiet place to sit and work on this section for 5-10 minutes.
Its very simple. Just sit calm and think about your life. Think seriously. Think how your life is right now. Is it how you always had wanted it to be? Just think how you want your life to be in next 5 years or 10 years. Just imagine what kind of life you had wanted all along.
Create a list of all of all the things you want to do or achieve to make your life more fulfilled. What’s going to make you happy, joyful and fulfilled?
Write how you want your finances, relationships, health, family, recreation, home, traveling, job, business to be.
You must describe this life of your dreams fully to allow it to charge you up, get you motivated and see clearly the goals you truly want to achieve.
Don’t control your thoughts when you imagine about your dream life, let your imagination go.
Don’t use your current life situations as a reference to dream about your future life. By end of this you will have a specific desired state of your WANTS in each category. Eg. If its about finances, there will be some particular amount of money you want to earn.
Now think about everything in your life that is really important to you. Think about the couple of things you’ve really been pondering lately or your biggest struggle in life. There are plenty of areas of your life you can set life goals in: careers, family, friends, other relationships, schooling, spirituality, traveling, fun, charity, money, health, and many more. These are just some to get your brain churning. Write down anything and everything that comes to mind – all of the things you’d like to accomplish and those that sound fun or exhilarating to you.
Finally look at what you’ve written down from your dream session. Narrow that list down to the things you absolutely couldn’t live without doing – those are your life goals.
Next try to clarify each of your goals with a specific target and a clearly defined outcome. You should be able to picture what your life will be like when you achieve the goal.
You will now be clear on exactly what your life goals are.
Once your goals are defined, the next step is creating a plan to get there. I strongly recommend my Single Page Plan and invite you to download the template and receive the video training absolutely free with no catches. Check it out here.
